Graves disease, thyroiditis, hashimotos, hyperthyroid, celiac disease, diabetes mellitus type 1, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, Multiple sclerosis, psoriasis.
I am seeing soooo many autoimmune disorders in clinic at the moment. I guess the good news is that I am also seeing really great results with treatments too.
Ok, so first up. What is an autoimmune disease?
An autoimmune disease is when your body has an abnormal immune response to an otherwise normal body part or process. There are loads of different autoimmune disease I have named a few above but there are at least 80 odd.
What can you do to minimise your chance of an autoimmune disease?
#1 – Natural contraceptive – the pill and other forms of synthetic hormones used in contraceptives are causing mayhem in the body and endocrine system. Often women are using these sorts of contraceptives for many years. I understand that careful family planning is super important to some people but at the cost of total health? I think we need to be looking at other alternatives to hormone based contraceptive.
Below is my favourite book for natural fertility, it’s a good starting place….
#2 – Diet – Gluten free is a must and actually, you could add dairy free too if you want to be really safe. The effects of wheat and gluten on the body are well documented. They are high in sugar causing spikes in blood sugars and visceral fats and they cause inflammation.
#3 household Goods – Many plastics, pots and pans and other house hold wares have nasty chemicals that are endocrine disrupters.
Glass containers for storage
Stainless steel, clay or cast iron are great for cooking
Out with the Plastic wrap, tin foil & baking paper. There are many options now for more sustainable and healthy options
Glass, pottery or stainless plates, serving plates and pretties.
#4 Cleaning Products – Again there are so many cost-effective options now for alternatives to the usual cleaning products that line our supermarket isles. Many of the eco ranges are made from plant based materials which are safe. Good old baking soda and vinegar go a long way in helping to clean the house.
The list could go on and on but let’s take health in bite sized pieces. That way it feels like its achievable. Take your time, but look at your lifestyle and house hold to see where you can make changes for a for a healthier you.
