Candida is a yeast overgrowth in the gut. It is very common, yet often goes undiagnosed for many years. Some symptoms of candida overgrowth include: a bloated stomach, white-coated tongue, depression, anxiety, sleep issues, brain fog, reflux, flatulence, sore tummy, constipation, diarrhea, nail infections, skin irritations, and eczema. These are just a few symptoms that can be caused by candida. There are many symptoms and it can affect really any part of the body.
Treating candida and getting on top of it, can take some time. There are a few parts to a good candida protocol.
Diet is very important. Candida feeds on sugars and yeast so it is important to make some big changes to diets. The diet needs to be grains/gluten free. Sugars of all kinds need to be stopped, including refined sugars, and natural sugars too. This means that fruit and sweet vegetables are out for a few weeks too. I highly recommend that dairy is also cut out.
So what is left to eat? Lots of vegetables (except mushrooms and sweet vegetables), good fats and meat is where it’s at for now.
the next part of the protocol to treat candida overgrowth is to include some good digestive enzymes. Candida makes biofilms that are like protective coverings which is made of a slimy sludge. The role of the enzymes is to essentially dissolve and eat away these biofilms. Unfortunately many people’s attempts to treat candida overgrowth fail as without the enzymes it is impossible for even great herbs and supplements to kill the candida.
Lastly, some great herbs can help destroy the candida are needed. This would normally be coordinated by a natural health practitioner like a homeopath or naturopath who can check digestive function as part of the protocol.
