Natural Health Protocols

Sharing my natural health protocols with other families is a labour of love. I feel strongly that all families should know how to support their health and address common ailments using traditional knowledge.

Natural UTI Protocol - Homeopathy & Supplements

Supporting the body through a urinary tract infection can feel overwhelming, especially when the discomfort is intense and the urgency becomes all-consuming. Over the years, I’ve worked with many families and women who struggle with both sudden and recurrent UTIs, and one thing is always clear: the sooner you support the bladder and urinary tract, the faster and calmer the recovery.

This natural UTI protocol is designed to help you understand the symptoms, choose the most fitting homeopathic support, and use herbs, supplements, and practical lifestyle steps to restore balance. Whether the discomfort has only just begun, or symptoms have been lingering, these tools can help you feel in control and well supported.

Just like any acute imbalance, how you care for your body during a UTI really matters. When you use the right combination of homeopathy, hydration, herbs, and urinary-friendly habits, the bladder can recover more comfortably and with fewer setbacks.

What Is a UTI?

A urinary tract infection typically occurs when bacteria enter and multiply within the urethra, bladder, or kidneys. The most common form is cystitis, where the bladder lining becomes irritated, inflamed, and highly sensitive. UTIs can present with burning sensations, urgency, frequent urination with minimal output, pressure in the lower abdomen, changes to urine odour or colour, and in some cases, radiating pain through the urinary tract.

Women experience UTIs more commonly due to anatomical differences, though children, men, and older adults can also be affected. Cold exposure, dehydration, sexual activity, microbiome imbalances, hormonal changes, and incomplete bladder emptying can all contribute.

Supporting the body early before the infection worsens can prevent complications and reduce recurrence.

What to Avoid

During a UTI, it is important to avoid anything that increases irritation to the bladder. Bathing should be avoided until healing has progressed because sitting in water can alter the local pH and introduce bacteria into the urinary tract. Showers are a better choice while symptoms are present.

Homeopathic Remedies for UTIs

All the following homeopathic remedies can be used based on symptom picture. These descriptions have been kept exactly as provided to ensure accuracy and integrity of the method.

Cantharis is indicated where there is intense burning with urination, terrible pains in the bladder, and temporary relief after urinating. There is intense urging to urinate and a feeling that if the bladder could be emptied fully, the pain would go.

Nux Vom is suited to kidney colitis with stones, constant urging, a full sensation with only small amounts passed, painful retention of urine, and continuous urging.

Pulsatilla may be chosen when sudden strong urges occur with no capacity to hold back urine. Pain increases every moment the urge is postponed, involuntary urination may appear, and urging begins after just one drop of urine collects. Pains can be paroxysmal, irregular, and change locations.

Sarsaparilla is useful when there is copious urination with burning at the end of urination. Pain appears in the last few drops. Retention of urine may be present and urination is easier when standing. There may also be red sediment in the urine.

Aconite supports cystitis that appears suddenly after exposure to cold. Pressure and burning occur before urination, along with anxious urging. Cystitis following a cold may indicate Pulsatilla as well.

Berberis is indicated in cystitis with stitching pains from the kidneys to the bladder. Pains may dart down the urinary tract and there can be a bubbling sensation in the kidneys.

If in doubt, you might prefer to opt for a homeopathic blend designed to support UTIs/Cystititis like this one

Supplements and Daily Support

Crataeva and couch grass are incredibly supportive during bladder irritation. One dropper morning and night can be taken until symptoms improve, and then once daily for another month to maintain bladder tone and support full recovery.

D-mannose is another valuable tool. Adults can take 5 grams three times per day until all UTI symptoms have passed. This naturally prevents bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall and is safe for ongoing use when needed.

Hydration is critical. Increasing water intake to well above 2.5 litres per day for an adult ensures the bladder is well flushed and reduces the concentration of irritants in the urine.

Vitamin C in the form of sodium ascorbate may be taken at a dose of one-quarter teaspoon for a child, and one-half teaspoon for an adult, at least four times daily. In more intense cases, it can be used six to eight times per day. This helps acidify the urine and supports immune function.

A daily probiotic, such as Biome Her, is also recommended. Take one capsule orally each day and insert one capsule as a pessary every second day for a month to help restore a balanced vaginal microbiome.

Do not take baths until fully recovered. Showers only reduce the risk of introducing further bacteria into the urinary tract.

For adults, it may also be helpful to consider a vaginal microbiome test. This can provide insights into which bacteria are contributing to recurrent UTIs, as well as information about vaginal pH. Understanding these factors allows for more accurate and long-term treatment planning.
